Prior to 1902 Manchester United was known as Newton Heath LYR Football Club. Newton Heath was wound up in 1902 with debts of just over two and half thousand pounds when captain Harry Stafford and four local businessmen invested five hundred pounds each each and a new club Manchester United Football Club was born on the 24th April 1902. With the change of name came a change of football kit to the football strip we recognise today. Gone went the green and yellow of Newton Heath and in came the red jersey, white shorts and black socks. Man Utd's away kit is traditionally white jerseys, black shorts and white socks. As homage to the 1968 European Cup winners a third kit of all blue is occasionally donned. Constant improvements and updates change the look of the kit season to season but it is the traditional 'Red' with yellow trim crest that we most recognise.
