Scooby Doo – Almost 40!

December 10, 2008

Scooby Doo at Rest and PlayScooby Doo has been a firm favourite with kids and adults for almost 40 years. This animated series created by Hanna  Barbera was first shown in 1969 and its popularity shows no sign of diminishing!

The show follows more or less the same format for each episode. Scooby Doo is a large but not very brave dog who is the mascot to a group of teenagers. Fred, Daphne, Shaggy and Velma drive around the world in a van called the ‘Mystery Machine’ where trouble always seems to find them in the guise of ghosts, monsters or supernatural figures and they set about solving the mystery.

The gang stick around solving clues to find that the ghost or monster is unmasked as a human. The plot is fully explained and the catchphrase uttered by the baddie – ” And I would have gotton away with it if it wasn’t for you meddling kids”, brings the show to an end.

Two feature length movies in 2002 and 2004 brought Scooby Doo to the big screen and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed them! Scooby, Shaggy and friends are sure to around for a lot longer (not sure about Scrappy Doo though!)
