Liverpool FC was formed in 1892 when Everton left Anfield following a dispute over rent. Club chairman John Houlding stayed on with just three first team players and a handful of supporters. Determined to continue seeing football at the ground he formed a new club from scratch and so began an intense ever present rivalry with Everton FC.
John Houlding could not have imagined just how successful his new team would be over the years. Over a 100 years later Liverpool’s roll of honour is impressive – League Champions 18 times, FA Cup winners 7 times, League Cup winners 7 times, European Cup winners 5 times and UEFA Cup winners 3 times.
Liverpool has had its fair share of famous names over the years – Bill Shankley, Emlyn Hughes, Tommy Smith, Kenny Daglish, Bob Paisley and more recently Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard.
